Vatican City: Glorious

Rome wasn't built in a day and I have enough photos for ten days. Fortunately, Vatican City is its own state so gets its own blog post.

My first view of St. Peter's was at night.

I was to return twice more. My first and final full days in Roma.
On the first, a local guide took us through galleries, the Sistine Chapel where no photos are allowed, and St Peter's Basilica. On the last, I took a Hop On and Off bus.

From the ceiling of an art gallery on our way to the Sistine Chapel.

The beauty of the chapel is something I will never forget. As I said, no photos.
It's just through the door to the left.

Fortunately, photos (no flash) were allowed in St. Peter's.

Looking Domeward

Somewhere under there is the Vatican Necropolis

Michelangelo designed the uniforms for the Swiss Guards, who protect the pope,
but unfortunately the rain prevented us from seeing them.

Finally, the Vatican police. Love the police car!
